What is a SAD?
A Special Assessment District (SAD) is a means of raising funds for a particular project; in this case, the clean up of Paradise Lake. The PLA has already presented a resolution letter to the Carp Lake Township Board (which you may have already received) stating that they will be pursuing the SAD. Although the Friends of Paradise Lake disagrees with a lot of what and how the PLA does things, this is one issue that we agree with and totally support. It is the fair and equitable way for all riparian owners to share equally in the cost of cleaning up Paradise Lake.
Regardless whether chemicals or weevils are employed, clean-up of our lake will not be cheap--it may cost $200,000 or more. Using that figure as an example, with 370 riparian owners, the total cost per parcel would be $540. That could be spread over a time frame of up to 5 years. A major focus of the Friends of Paradise Lake is that due to the cost involved, we must make every effort to get it right the first time. None of us can afford to ‘experiment’ with this kind of investment.
